A photo-etched set of accessory parts for a model of the Douglas SBD-3 Dauntless carrier dive bomber in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Douglas SBD Dauntless was a carrier dive bomber of the US Navy. Two men sat in the cockpit, the pilot in front and behind him a gunner facing aft. Under the wing the aircraft had perforated dive brakes; in a diving attack they held the speed within limits in which aiming was possible and at the same time they did not buffet the tail surfaces as much as solid surfaces would. The SBD-3 version served in the first years of the fighting in the Pacific.
Photo-etched parts are made from thin metal sheet and replace places on a model that come out too thick in plastic. The metal has a real thickness of a few hundredths of a millimeter, so after replacement the edges and small features look convincing even under a magnifier. The extent of the parts, and the kit the set is cut for, are given in the manufacturer's instructions; follow them also when choosing which plastic parts to remove before the photo-etch is glued on.
Cut the parts out with a sharp blade on a hard surface, do not break them out, otherwise they will bend. Make the bends in the marked grooves, best of all in a bending tool or between two blades, so that the edge comes out sharp. Apply super glue in a really small amount, put on with the tip of a wire. Before painting, degrease the metal and spray it with a base color, as paint holds badly on bare sheet and rubs off while it is handled.
The aircraft kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
