A photo-etched set from the Czech brand Hauler for the kit of the German medium tank E-50 with a 105 mm gun in 1:72 scale. It is not a model of a tank, but a fret of parts in thin metal sheet with which you replace the plastic elements that cannot be thin enough: engine bay grilles, fenders, brackets, eyes and other small details. It is in a fine scale that the difference shows the most: an etched grille really is see-through and a fender has a believable thickness, so the model suddenly looks a class better. The set is cut for the specific E-50 kit in this scale.
The E-50 belonged to the German Entwicklung series, that is to the body of projects meant to unify armored vehicle production around a few standardized chassis in the closing stage of the Second World War. A machine in the weight class of around fifty tons was to replace the existing medium and heavy tanks and to use as many common parts as possible. It was never built: the E-50 stayed on paper, and all its forms, including the variants with a heavier gun, are reconstructions from project documents and modelers' interpretations, not copies of a vehicle that existed.
Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and make the bends in a bending tool or between two blades. First cut away the plastic elements the etched parts replace and sand the surface flat. The parts are glued with cyanoacrylate applied with a pin. Fit the grilles only after the basic spraying of the hull, so that too much paint does not get under them. Degrease the metal and apply a thin primer before painting. For weathering armor, a wash in the recesses and dry pigments for mud and dust effects around the running gear work well.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
