1:72 Eino Luukkanen - Finland’s Top Ace WW II Vol.II

What the set contains

A decal sheet in 1:72 scale devoted to the machines flown by the Finnish fighter pilot Eino Luukkanen. The designation of the second part says that this is a continuation of a line aimed at the same airman; the individual parts complement one another and are not interchangeable. Which particular machines and which markings the sheet covers is shown by the enclosed instructions with color drawings, by which you also place the decals.

The real subject

In the Second World War Eino Luukkanen was among the most successful fighter pilots of the Finnish Air Force. Finnish machines of that time are rewarding for a modeler precisely because of their markings: both the camouflage and the national insignia differ from German and from Soviet practice, so a model built with such decals will not be lost in a cabinet among the others.

How to apply the decals

First give the area under the decal a coat of gloss varnish. On a matte surface air is trapped under the film and the decal turns white. Cut the subject out close to the edge of the printing, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest until the backing releases. Then slide the decal into place, pull the paper out from under it and blot the excess water away with a soft cloth. On a broken-up surface a decal softener will help, as it draws the film down into engraving and over rivets. Once dry, give the model a coat of matte or semi-matte varnish, which hides the edges of the film. The particular procedure the manufacturer recommends is stated in the instructions in the package.
