Landing gear masks for the F-100 Super Sabre 1:72, Italeri and Esci help to draw a sharp boundary between a bay and the lower surface of the airframe.
Responsibility details are not available.
It comes into use at the moment the airframe is heading under the airbrush. The landing gear spaces are covered, the outer shade is laid on across them and once it is taken off an edge is left that a brush could not manage so accurately. The set matches the shapes of the Italeri and Esci kits; separate items exist for other manufacturers.
The Super Sabre did not stay an American matter alone. The French Air Force acquired it in hundreds of examples and deployed it outside Europe as well, Danish and Turkish squadrons flew it well into the 1980s and part of the machines ended up as target drones. A special chapter was the aerobatic team, which performed routines on the type before moving to more modern equipment. Thanks to the export users precisely there is an unusually varied palette of camouflage schemes for the type, from bare metal through South Asian patterns to the European gray and green scheme.
If you are planning a gloss base under the decals, lay it on only after the covering is off, otherwise the clear coat gets under the edge and the transition turns glassy. Leave the matting right to the end, after the decals are worked in and the panel seams accentuated.
