The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was a two-seat carrier-based fighter with a variable-sweep wing. The F-14A version was the first production variant and formed the backbone of the US Navy fighter force from the mid-1970s. A twin-engine layout, a crew of two and a powerful onboard radar matched the main task of the type, that is long-range fighter defense of a carrier task force. Machines of this type also flew at the naval fighter weapons school after which this boxing is named.
A Tomcat in 1:72 is rewarding to build, but it pays to think ahead. Decide on the position of the wings first, because the sweep angle you choose also affects how the glove covers line up. Try gluing the fuselage and the air intakes dry, and only then glue them for good with thin plastic cement. Finish and paint the cockpit and the nose gear bay before you close the fuselage up. Mask the clear parts and clear-coat them only after the base coat is done. A white or gray filler primer suits the light naval camouflage schemes, sprayed with an airbrush in thin coats. Lay a gloss clear coat under the decals, go over them with a matte one once dry and use a fine panel wash sparingly, so that the model does not turn gray.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
