The set replaces the exhaust nozzle of a model with a part of markedly sharper detail than injection-molded plastic allows. The nozzle is an exposed part of the airframe and on a finished model you look straight into it, so it is worth the work. The set is cut for the Hasegawa kit in 1:72 scale; the same set also exists in a rendering for another maker's kit, so check which edition you are ordering. The number of parts and the material are given in the enclosed instructions. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory.
The F-35A is the single-engine variant with conventional takeoff and landing. The exhaust nozzle is formed by a set of overlapping petals that change the cross section as they move, and its surface carries pronounced heat discoloration. It is precisely the division into petals and the transition of colors that make a nozzle recognizable on a model.
Separate the part from the supports with a fine saw or a cutter and level the face with abrasive paper, ideally wet. Wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent before painting. Bond it with super glue and try the fit dry first, because the transition from the nozzle into the fuselage has to be free of a gap. Build the metallic look up from a dark base and add metallic shades laid on in layers; suggest the heat discoloration by brightening and with fine dry pigment. Darken the inside of the nozzle before you glue it on, as a brush will not reach in there later.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. Paints, glue and the model itself are not included in the package.
