A 1:72 mask set for the landing gear bays of the carrier-based F-4B and F-4N Phantom II, cut for Fine Molds kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is a two-seat, twin-engine machine developed for the US Navy, and you can recognize it by the drooping tips of the horizontal tail and the upward-cranked outer wing panels. The F-4B served with the Navy and the Marine Corps as one of the first production versions, while the F-4N came from rebuilt earlier F-4B airframes, which extended their service life and added newer equipment.
The templates copy the shape of the landing gear bays on the Fine Molds kits in 1:72 scale. At this scale the openings are small and intricate, so cutting tape by hand takes a long time and the result tends to come out uneven; the pre-cut shape drops into place and the job is done. The inside of the bay, which differs from the external finish on the real aircraft, stays untouched.
First finish the interior surfaces and let them dry, and only then mask. Small templates are easier to seat with fine-tipped tweezers; press the edge down afterwards along the whole perimeter with a blunt tip. Spray the external finish at lower pressure and in thin coats, otherwise the mist works its way into the narrow gap. Lift the mask as soon as the paint is dry to the touch and even out any ridge with a brush.
For builders of small-scale jets who do not want the external color to get into the landing gear bays. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
