A plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer RS Models. It represents the photo-reconnaissance version of the twin-boom Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter, designated F-4 and F-4A. It is a short-run injection tooling with a rich choice of marking options. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Lockheed F-4 and F-4A were photo-reconnaissance conversions of the early versions of the Lightning (the F-4 was based on the P-38E and the F-4A on the P-38F). Instead of armament in the nose they carried photographic cameras and became the first Lightnings committed to combat service. They flew in the Pacific, the Mediterranean and other theaters and were used by American as well as Allied units, including Australian and French crews.
With a short-run tooling, count on cleaning the parts up carefully and dry-fitting them before gluing. Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement and apply a primer before painting. An airbrush suits the smooth metal surfaces of the Lightning; natural metal as well as colored camouflage benefits from a gentle wash in the panel lines. Mask the cockpit and the clear parts with the prominent canopy in mind.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
