A combined 1:72 set with decals as well as die-cut masks for the Turkish Phantom in a treatment marking fifty years of the type's service with the Turkish Air Force.
Responsibility details are not available.
Turkey took over its first F-4E Phantom II in 1974 and in 2024 thus reached fifty years of continuous operation of the type. It is therefore among the last countries where a heavy twin-engine machine designed back at the end of the 1950s still performs real tasks. This was made possible by an extensive upgrade in which the aircraft received new avionics and the ability to carry contemporary armament, while their massive airframe with the angled wingtips and the drooped tailplane stayed unchanged.
The set joins a printed sheet to die-cut masks, and that is exactly where its strength lies. The large continuous areas of color are sprayed through a mask, so no step and no glossy border appear on the model, while the fine lettering, numbers and small insignia are transferred by decal. The result is noticeably more convincing than if the whole artwork were done by a single method.
First finish the basic paintwork and let it cure properly, ideally overnight. Stick the masks down exactly according to the instructions, press the edges with a fingernail or a blunt wooden stick and apply the paint in several very thin coats; a thick coat bleeds under. Peel the films off while the paint is still fresh, at a sharp angle and slowly. Only then apply the gloss intermediate coat and start on the decals.
Before you reach for paint, compare the shape of the nose and the layout of the antennas against a photograph of the particular aircraft. The upgraded examples differ from the original rendition in small things that are clearly visible even on a small model.
