This item is not a model of the vehicle but an accessory for it. The set holds wheels cast in resin in the sagged form: the tire is flattened where it meets the ground, as though pressed by the weight of a fully loaded vehicle. The casting carries no parting line across the middle of the tread, which an injection-molded part usually does and which is hard to hide on large off-road tires. The set is prepared for a model of the racing version of the KAMAZ-43509 truck in 1:35 scale.
The KAMAZ-43509 in racing form is a special built for long-distance rally raids, that is endurance events run over desert and stony routes thousands of kilometers long. The basis is a sturdy ladder-frame chassis with all-wheel drive, strengthened suspension with a long travel and a turbocharged diesel engine of high output. The most noticeable elements are the enormous off-road tires with a deep tread and a central inflation system, with which the crew changes the pressure according to the surface; on soft sand they lower it, on hard ground they raise it. On a model of such a vehicle the wheels make up a large part of the overall impression.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let them dry, or the paint will hold badly on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surface, seating them with super glue. The flattened part of each tire has to point exactly downward and all the wheels have to sit down in one plane, or the model will lean on its base. Paint the rubber a very dark gray with a hint of brown rather than pure black. Then work pigment into the deep tread according to the surface the vehicle is to stand on: light dust for sand, a darker earthy shade for mud.
