A photo-etched set for building a model of the F-4B or F-4N Phantom II carrier fighter in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-4B and F-4N Phantom II are the carrier versions of the two-seat fighter of the US Navy. The F-4N came about by rebuilding and modernizing earlier F-4B machines, so the two versions differ mainly in equipment rather than in the shape of the airframe. The Phantom was among the most widespread combat aircraft of its time and also served with the US Marine Corps.
Photo-etched parts are thin metal pressings that replace or complete the plastic parts of a kit wherever plastic would come out disproportionately thick: grilles, straps, placards, buckles and similar fine work. The extent of the fret and the assignment of the individual parts to places on the model are given in the enclosed instructions, which are part of the package.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface rather than with nippers, otherwise the edge will ripple. Bend them in a bending tool or between two blades so that the edge is sharp and straight. They are glued with super glue applied in a small amount; for larger surfaces a glue with a longer setting time is useful, since it still allows the part to be moved. Degrease the metal before painting and apply a base color intended for metal, otherwise the coat will peel during handling. Put the small parts in a dish; on a carpet you will look for them in vain.
The set suits modelers who want to complete a Phantom model with details that cannot be produced in plastic and do not mind working with tweezers. The model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
