Set of photo-etched metal parts for a model of the F-4J Phantom II aircraft in 1:72 scale. Thin metal adds detail where a plastic part is necessarily thicker than the real thing.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-4J is the carrier form of the two-seat twin-engine Phantom II fighter aircraft, the machine that became one of the main types of US Navy aviation in the 1960s and 1970s. You recognize it at first glance by the cranked wingtips and the angled tailplane. In 1:72 scale the model is fairly small, which makes the thickness of the plastic parts all the more noticeable on it.
Photo-etched metal is thin to within tenths of a millimeter, so it faithfully stands in for parts that in reality are of thin sheet or of wire: seat harnesses, instrument panels, grilles, hinges and similar small items. The scope of the set and which kit it is cut for are given in the manufacturer's instructions, so go through them before you start modifying the plastic: some parts replace the plastic original and their place has to be sanded down first.
Cut the parts off the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not with nippers, and sand the remaining stub down. Bend them over the edge of a metal ruler or in a bender, always at once and in a single pass. Before painting, wash and degrease the metal, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface; a thin base coat has proved itself. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied as a small drop on the tip of a toothpick.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
