The kit 1:72 F-4K Phantom FG.1 Late vol.1 from the Hobby 2000 brand builds on proven tooling rounded out with quality decals and masks.

The F-4K version was created for the Royal Navy and differs from its American siblings at a glance. The Rolls-Royce Spey engines called for a wider fuselage and more substantial air intakes, the nose landing gear could extend its leg for the catapult, and the nose folded so that the aircraft would fit into the hangar below deck. After the aircraft carrier Ark Royal was withdrawn, the machines passed to the Royal Air Force, where they served as interceptors under the designation Phantom FG.1.
The box is aimed at the 1980s, when these machines stood at readiness over the North Sea and took off toward unknown targets approaching British airspace. The set offers three color schemes of British squadrons from 1983, so you can choose between several striking national insignia and unit markings.
The plastic parts come from Japanese tooling, which is valued among modelers for its fine engraved panel detail and decent fit. The Polish publisher has added sheets of decals from an Italian printer renowned for saturated colors and print registration, along with masks for the glazing. It is precisely the combination of proven plastic and better artwork that makes this box an interesting offer.
The build is not among the most complicated, but the cockpit with its pair of seats and the elaborate air intakes reward careful work. A modeler with middling experience will manage it without trouble and will be rewarded by a silhouette that stands clearly apart from the commonly built American versions. The gray-green camouflage and the later gray scheme also offer room for panel shading and a fine picking out of rivets.
