A resin front radial engine for the American Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat carrier fighter in 1:72 scale from Quickboost. It is not an airplane model but an exactly cast detail part that will replace the simplified engine from the base kit with more accurate definition of the cylinders and the ignition harness.
The F4F-4 was the most widespread version of the Wildcat, the rugged carrier fighter of the US Navy from the beginning of the war in the Pacific, recognizable by its stocky fuselage. It was powered by the air-cooled fourteen-cylinder two-row Pratt and Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp radial engine. The front of the radial is clearly visible behind the cowling intake and, because in a kit it tends to be merely suggested, a crisply cast resin part noticeably lifts the impression the nose makes.
Resin parts need more careful preparation: wash them in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue, separate them from the casting block carefully and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate); protect your airways while sanding. Paint the engine in dark metal, bring out the cylinders with a dry brush, set the harness and the wiring apart in color and tie the whole together with a fine flowing wash.
The part is supplied as a resin accessory, unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
