An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The set captures the Grumman F6F Hellcat carrier fighter and offers the option of building either the F6F-3 or the later F6F-5 variant. The package contains sprues molded in gray, a clear canopy part and a decal sheet. The exact markings and the number of schemes differ between individual releases.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was a rugged carrier fighter of the US Navy, in service from 1943 in the Pacific theater. It was powered by a Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine. The machine was designed with the emphasis on armor, endurance and easy handling and became one of the most successful carrier fighters of the war, with a high kill ratio. The F6F-5 version brought small aerodynamic and armament changes compared with the F6F-3.
Glue the parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic. Apply a primer before painting; the shades are best built up with an airbrush. With a naval camouflage it helps to grade the upper and lower surfaces and to pick out the panel lines with a fine wash. Paint the clear canopy last and protect it with a mask.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
