A decal sheet for a model of the F/A-18A Hornet carrier aircraft in 1:72 scale. An accessory for a kit that replaces or extends the decals from the box.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F/A-18A Hornet is a single-seat carrier aircraft that combined the fighter and attack roles in one airframe, as its double designation suggests. It is powered by two turbofan engines, and its trademarks are the two canted vertical tails and the leading-edge extensions at the wing root, which keep the machine controllable at high angles of attack. It entered service in the 1980s with the US Navy and the US Marine Corps and, in updated versions, was taken over by other air forces as well. For a modeler it is rewarding precisely because of its colors: gray finishes with prominent squadron markings give decal sheets a lot of room.
The sheet is drawn for 1:72 scale and carries the markings for a model of this type. Which particular machines and which national insignia it contains are given in the instructions supplied with the sheet. Decals from accessory sheets tend to be thinner and richer than those from the box and let you build a machine that is not in the basic kit.
With ordinary sheets you work the wet way. Before you soak the sheet, check in the instructions whether it is not a self-adhesive version, because a soaked self-adhesive film is ruined. With a wet decal, finish the area to a gloss, cut the piece out and soak it in lukewarm water for a few seconds, let it rest, slide it off the paper into place and blot the surplus water away. Over rivets and panels, help it with a decal softener, and once dry, coat the whole thing with varnish.
The model, paints, varnish and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
