A printed resin figure of a soldier of the present-day Ukrainian army with the call sign Dyzel. Once cleaned up it measures around twenty-five millimeters.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Ukrainian workshop Spalah names its figures the way soldiers address one another, that is by the call sign. Dyzel is one of them. It is not a rank and not a type of role, but a nickname that replaces a surname within a unit and stays with a man even after he is transferred elsewhere.
The real subject is an infantryman of today's army: a helmet with side rails, a plate carrier, knee pads and tactical gloves. The make-up of the gear matches what has really been worn in recent years, that is a mixture of western items and home-made modifications.
In 1:72 scale an adult figure comes out at roughly twenty-five millimeters. The casting is made by printing from photopolymer resin, so the edges of the straps and the buckles stay readable even at such a small size. Injection-molded plastic would not hold similar detail at this resolution.
After unpacking, cut off the remains of the print supports, sand the flats with fine abrasive and wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent. On the surface there tends to be a film of print resin, under which paint will not hold. Apply the ground thinly, ideally with a spray. At such a size the face is rather suggested: a dark ground, a lighter tone on the forehead and the cheekbones, and leave the eyes out altogether. On the gear a dry brush works, and a spot of saturated color on small things such as the grip of the weapon or the strap over the shoulder. At the end fix the finished figure with a matte clear coat, otherwise the small surfaces will be polished smooth while it is being set into a scene. Choose a low base, so that the figure does not come across as taller than it really is.
