The Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-15 masking set from Art Scale is a modeling accessory for a kit in 1:72 scale. It serves for covering the clear parts while spraying, so that the framing comes out straight and with a sharp paint transition. The designation one-sided means a single-sided set for the outer side of the glazing.
The Fw 190D-15 belongs to the late development versions of the D series, that is, the long-nose branch of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighter nicknamed Dora. Unlike the most widespread D-9 version with a Junkers Jumo 213 engine, it was to have a liquid-cooled Daimler-Benz 603 series powerplant. Accounts differ in the literature as to the extent to which the version was actually realized. The basic shape of the airframe follows the Fw 190 family with an extended nose and a lengthened rear fuselage; the cockpit is closed by a sliding canopy with prominent framing on which the quality of the masking shows well.
Wash and degrease the clear part so that the mask holds. Lift the parts off the carrier film with tweezers, lay them on the frame and press them down with a soft tool so that the edges seat along their whole length. On curves a small fan-shaped nick or careful trimming with a sharp scalpel right on the part helps, with minimal pressure. Spray in thin coats: the interior shade of the cockpit first, then the base coat and finally the top color. With a heavy coat a ridge forms under the edge of the mask which stays as a step once it is lifted. Take the mask off as soon as the paint is dry to the touch.
