An injection-molded plastic kit of the French fighter Dewoitine D.520 in 1:72 scale from Hobby Boss. The model belongs to the easy assembly line with a lower part count, good fit, an engraved surface, a metal propeller shaft, one-piece glazing and decals. Thanks to its simplicity and sturdiness it suits beginning modelers and a quick build too.
The D.520 was the best French fighter deployed during the Battle of France in 1940. Compared with the older MS.406 it had markedly higher performance, better agility and heavier armament, and as the only French fighter of its day it was able to fight the German Messerschmitts on equal terms. It reached the fighting late, however, and in small numbers. After the defeat of France it served on with the Vichy French air force and with further operators.
Separate the parts with a sharp knife and glue them with thin liquid cement for plastic. Although it is an easy-build kit, the cockpit will be improved by a wash and by careful seating of the one-piece canopy. Mask the glazing for clean frames. Spray the French three-color camouflage with an airbrush over primer in thin coats and enliven it with a subtle panel wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
