A full radar conversion for the TBM-3D Avenger in 1:72 from AML turns an ordinary Avenger into a night hunter with a radar under the wing.
Responsibility details are not available.
This radar conversion from the Czech brand AML turns an ordinary Avenger model in 1:72 scale into the night TBM-3D version. The package serves solely as an extension of an existing model - the torpedo aircraft itself is bought separately.
The Grumman Avenger was the most widespread Allied carrier torpedo aircraft, and from the middle of the war it took on more and more special roles. The TBM-3D variant built by General Motors carried a search radar in a pod slung under the wing and operated mainly in darkness - it searched out surface targets and submarines, marked them with flares and guided the strike wave onto them. It was quiet night craftsmanship that its more famous squadron mates could not have done without, and it is exactly that atmosphere that makes the variant an attractive modeling subject.
A fairly extensive conversion calls for patience: dry-fit every step and only then glue. American carrier machines of the late war flew in the overall gloss blue scheme; fine panel shading, salt streaks and the marks of life on deck bring the uniform surface to life. The radar pod is the identifying mark of the variant - give it special care both in the building and in the painting.
