A set of 3D-printed decals of pilot belts for early Focke-Wulf Fw 190s in 1:72 scale adds three-dimensional detail to the cockpit with no photo-etch to work with.
Responsibility details are not available.
The straps are printed in relief directly on the decal film, so they carry their own color and texture. There is no cutting out, annealing or clear-coating of metal pieces that measure barely a few millimeters at this scale. The item is made by the Czech brand Art Scale and is intended for kits, which are separate items.
The machine from Kurt Tank's drawing board entered the fighting over the Channel in 1941 and caught British Spitfire Mk.V pilots off guard with its speed and its agility in the roll. The BMW 801 radial with fan cooling made a very compact nose possible, the cockpit set high gave a good view out and the wide landing gear track forgave a rough landing. The early A-1 to A-5 series can be told apart by the shorter nose and the simpler armament.
Prepare the surface glossy, so that the film does not go matte and leave a silvered edge. The belts give way readily to warm water, but once seated let them dry undisturbed before you try to shape them. Ripples and a slight twist in a strap look more faithful than a perfectly straight line. The transition on the seat can be unified at the end with a thin wash.
Apart from the belts the package holds nothing else.
