A photo-etched set in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for detailing a plastic model of the Fw 190D-9 fighter. It is not a kit; the contents are thin metal parts that replace simplified plastic components. By its code series the item belongs among the full photo-etched sets — that is, a more extensive category than the smaller pre-painted sets, which concentrate only on the cockpit and the seat belts.
The Fw 190D-9 is a late version of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighter, in which the original radial engine was replaced by a liquid-cooled inverted V12. The change called for lengthening the front as well as the rear part of the fuselage and brought the characteristic long nose with an annular radiator. The model therefore has a different silhouette from the earlier versions, and a number of details, for example the grilles and flaps on the fuselage, are molded in a small scale only as a suggestion.
Working with photo-etched metal in 1:72 scale calls for a sharp scalpel, a fine file and a steady hand. Separate the parts on a hard surface, sand the tabs down and make the bends in a bending tool in one movement. Use cyanoacrylate glue in a micro dose for the bonding; for large or loaded areas a slow-setting epoxy is more suitable. Degrease bare photo-etched parts and spray them with a base coat, otherwise the paint will not hold. If the set contains grilles or perforated areas, they will stand out most over a dark base with the edges gently emphasized.
An accessory for a plastic model, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
