This set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks is intended for covering the glazing while painting the model of the British twin-engine Gloster Meteor jet fighter in the Mk.3 and Mk.4 versions in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit or a part of the model, but an aid for spraying.
The Meteor has its glazing divided into three separate units: the windshield with a flat glazed panel, the sliding canopy and the rear cover behind the pilot. Each of them has its own frames oriented differently, so masking by hand means working through three different directions in turn and going astray in every cut. Two bulky engine nacelles sit close to the cockpit as well, and maneuvering around them with a brush or with tape is awkward. The Mk.3 and Mk.4 versions belong to the early phase of the service of the type, when the aircraft are often depicted in smooth single-color or gloss schemes, on which every overrun of paint on the glass shows at once.
Wash the glazing and let it dry. Take the masks out with tweezers and stick them on one at a time, so they do not shift on you. Press the edge down carefully with a toothpick; on flat glazed panels that goes easily, on curved parts work in small sections. Spray thinly, in two or three coats. Take the mask off soon after the paint has dried and pull it at an angle across the edge, not straight up, so it does not tear the coat away with it. After removal check the edges and scrape any overrun away carefully with a toothpick, not with metal.
The set contains only the masks. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
