This product is not a kit, but an accessory for painting. The set contains die-cut masking templates and is tied to the color scheme of one particular American carrier fighter squadron, whose nickname has accompanied it throughout its existence. The BASIC designation on New Ware sets expresses the basic extent; more comprehensive variants are marked ADVANCED and EXPERT. The exact content of the sheets is stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was a two-seat carrier-based fighter of the US Navy with a variable-sweep wing that adjusted itself automatically in flight according to speed. The A version was the first production variant and differed from the later ones mainly in its powerplant. The machine was designed to defend a naval force at long range and carried armament to match, together with a powerful radar able to reach several targets at once. Carrier squadrons traditionally decorated their Tomcats with striking markings on the vertical tails, which made them a rewarding modeling subject.
Degrease the glazing and let it dry, and only then mask. Take out the individual templates with tweezers, lay them down by one edge and smooth them out gradually. Press the edges down with a toothpick, otherwise the paint will creep underneath. In 1:72 scale the parts are tiny, so it pays to work under good light and preferably with a magnifier. Spray thinly and in several coats. Remove the mask slowly and at a sharp angle once the paint has become tacky, so that it does not tear the edge of the finish.
The templates are cut to the shape of a particular kit; check that they match your model beforehand. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
