About product

Handley Page Jetstream T3 1:72 (Amodel)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the British twin-engine Jetstream turboprop aircraft in the T3 military training version, 1:72 scale, made by Amodel. The model completes the family of Jetstreams that the manufacturer releases in civilian and military versions alike. The kit is short-run and is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The Jetstream is a slender twin-engine turboprop aircraft of British design with a pressurized cabin, originally conceived as a capable liaison and regional machine. The T3 version served with British naval aviation as a training aircraft for the training of airborne observers and operators, that is the specialists who work with radar and with navigation over the sea. The military machines differ from the civilian ones above all in equipment and in a striking finish that makes them easier to tell apart in the air.

Building and painting tips

A slender fuselage with a long forward section tends to make models of airliners prone to sitting on their tails. Before you close the fuselage up, consider a nose weight, try it dry and make sure it cannot move around inside. Fill and sand the fuselage seams; it is easier to leave the row of windows empty, tape the openings over and glue the clear parts in only after the finish has been applied. A military finish tends to be strongly contrasting, so spray from the light shades, mask the edges carefully and check the transitions against the light. Paint the propellers and add contrasting tips, and glue the small aerials and sensors on at the very end.

Who the model is for

  • For collectors of British military aviation of the postwar period
  • For modelers who collect whole families of one type in all its versions
  • For builders with experience of short-run kits of airliners

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is a military training version intended for training airborne observers. It differs above all in internal equipment and in the finish. The contents of the kit are given in the manufacturer's instructions.

On slender twin-engine aircraft with nose-wheel landing gear it usually pays off. We recommend trying the model dry before the fuselage is glued together, as adding weight afterwards is difficult.

It matches a short-run kit: count on filling seams, sanding mating surfaces down and careful masking of a row of windows.
