The Sd.Kfz. 251 was a German half-track armored vehicle of the Second World War. At the front it had steerable wheels, at the rear a tracked running gear and above it a body with sloped armor walls and an open top. It was created as an infantry carrier but served in a whole range of special versions that differed in equipment and armament; in German designations a number after the slash told them apart. Among modelers the whole type has become known by the nickname Hanomag, after one of the works that built the vehicle. The Ausf. A designation belongs to the earliest production batch, which you recognize by the vision ports in the sides of the fighting compartment; later forms gradually lost them.
The real vehicle was just under six meters long, so the finished model comes out at around eight centimeters. That is a rewarding size for a display case and for a diorama with infantry, where the vehicle does not swallow the whole scene. The range of parts, the marking options and the exact form the kit is tuned to are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Assemble the running gear with its wheels and tracks on a flat surface so that the model finally stands level on all its bearing points. The open body can be seen into, so paint and shade it before you close it up with the upper parts. Cut away and sand off any excess material and production marks, and fill the seams with putty. Wash and degrease the model before painting. On the tracks and fenders it pays to suggest dust and mud, which is exactly where the vehicle carried most of it.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue, putty and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
