About product

An Xtradecal 1:72 decal sheet, Hawker Hurricane Mk.I, the second part, 1940

A sheet of decals in 1:72 scale from the British brand Xtradecal with markings for Hurricane Mk.I fighters from the period of the Battle of Britain. It is the second part of the series, so in content it follows on from the earlier sheet and covers different machines. In itself it is neither a model nor a part of one, but standalone markings that are laid onto a finished painted surface. The particular aircraft, units and the extent of the lettering are given on the packaging and in the instructions supplied.

The real subject

In 1940 the Hurricane Mk.I was numerically the most widespread fighter of the Royal Air Force. It was a single-seat machine with a fuselage of mixed construction, a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine and armament concentrated in the wing. During 1940 a number of technical details changed on the production machines, for example the shape of the propeller and the covering of the wing, and at the same time the regulations for national insignia and color schemes were being revised. For the modeler that means the markings and the technical state of the aircraft have to match one another.

Application tips

On the Hurricane the large national insignia are often laid on the markedly curved rear fuselage and the wing root, where a flat decal will not settle by itself. Proceed in stages: settle the decal in the middle of the area, blot the excess water away and only then press it outward with a soft brush. Never squeeze a bubble that forms, but prick it with the point of a new scalpel or a needle and press the water out of it with a cotton swab toward the puncture. On strongly curved places it helps to warm the decal gently with a damp hot cloth.

Who the sheet is for

  • modelers building Hurricane Mk.I in 1:72 scale
  • anyone interested in British fighters of 1940
  • builders who already have the first part of the series
  • those who want better printing than from the box

The package contains the decal sheet only. The kit, paints and varnishes are not part of it.

FAQ

It is not. These are solely a sheet of decals for a finished painted model.

Yes, it completes it in content and covers different machines. Each sheet nonetheless works on its own.

Settle the decal in the middle of the area, blot the water away and press it outward gradually with a soft brush.

The number of schemes is given on the packaging and in the instructions.
