HMS Victorious was a British aircraft carrier that served from the Second World War and went through an extensive rebuild in the 1950s. The base carries the motif of the forward, bow section of the flight deck as it was in the 1960s, that is the place where the deck runs away to a point and where machines used to be parked before takeoff. A model stood on this drawing gets a setting without your having to build a whole diorama.
A plate of acrylic 3 mm thick, measuring 280 x 180 mm and weighing 170 g, with a colored print. The drawing is prepared in 1:72 scale and the surface of the plate corresponds to roughly twenty by thirteen meters of real deck. The model therefore stands on a section of it, not on the whole ship. The 3 mm thickness gives the plate rigidity, so it does not bend under the model and is carried along with it.
Nothing is assembled or painted over. You simply stand a finished model on the plate; if you want to settle it permanently, reach for double-sided tape rather than glue. Acrylic scratches easily, so wipe the base with a soft dry cloth and avoid solvents, spirits and nail polish remover, which will cloud the surface for good. When photographing, leave a stretch of free surface in front of the model, as the framing then does not look cramped and the drawing of the deck stands out.
For modelers of carrier aircraft in 1:72 scale and for anyone who displays finished models in a case or photographs them. Several plates from the same setting side by side hold a collection together better than a bare shelf. The model, the figures and the paints are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
