This Eduard set in 1:72 scale holds precisely cut self-adhesive painting masks for a plastic model of the Soviet Ilyushin Il-2M3 Shturmovik attack aircraft. It is not a kit or a model of an aircraft in its own right but an aid for painting: the masks follow the framing of the cockpit canopy and other glazing exactly, so you spray sharp and straight frame lines with no lengthy laying down of adhesive tape. Circular masks for the wheel hubs are usually included.
The Ilyushin Il-2 is a Soviet single-engine attack aircraft of the Second World War, famous for the armored bathtub that protected the engine, the pilot and the fuel tanks against fire from the ground. The M3 version is two-seat, with a rear gunner for defense against fighters and with a swept leading edge on the outer wings. The Shturmovik was built in tens of thousands and ranks among the most widespread combat aircraft in history.
Carefully lift the masks off the backing film with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel and press them onto the glazing so that they follow the shape of the frames. The clear areas stay covered and only the frame is left exposed. Spray the paint, ideally with an airbrush in thin coats, and lift the masks off once it is dry. Wipe adhesive residue off with a gently moistened cloth.
The package holds only the cut masks. The model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
