The real subject

Camel corps came about from the practical need to cross extensive desert areas in which both classic cavalry and infantry were limited by distances and by water supply. The animal meanwhile served above all as a means of transport. For the fighting itself a unit as a rule dismounted and went in on foot, which is exactly the situation this set captures. For a scene that means the figures can be used on their own even when there are no animals in the same composition.

Building and painting tips

A dismounted unit has a different logic in a scene from infantry: the characters concentrate around the place where the animals and the load have stayed and spread out from there to the sides. Build the composition from one imaginary center, therefore. In color, start from a muted sand and khaki palette, which you will enliven only with small accents on the equipment. A dusty touch applied from the bottom up with decreasing intensity suits a desert scene. Before painting, do not forget to deburr the parting lines and to apply primer, as soft plastic will not hold paint without a base. Glue with cyanoacrylate, as cement for polystyrene will not join this material.
