A set of 1:72 masking cutouts for the single-seat light combat aircraft L-159 in the A and E versions.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Aero Vodochody L-159 grew out of the family of jet trainers that Czechoslovakia delivered all over the world, but it outgrew its predecessor. It received a more powerful Western-designed powerplant, a radar and pylons for a wide range of armament, so a trainer became a full-fledged light combat aircraft. The single-seat version designated by the letter A made up the core of the order for the home military.
A more interesting fate awaited the machines with the letter E. Some of the unused airframes found a second life overseas, where a civilian operator used them to train pilots in the adversary role. The aircraft were given unusual color schemes and, paradoxically, stayed in the air longer and more intensively than many of their sister airframes at home.
The cockpit of the single-seat version has a canopy with a pronounced frame and a rounded front section. On a shape like that, adhesive tape kinks and a cut strip never keeps the same width along its whole length, whereas a pre-cut film sits exactly where it belongs.
It pays not to skip any step of the procedure. Stick the templates onto a dry, clean part, press the edges down and spray in thin coats, so that no ridge builds up on the edge. Uncover it with a light touch and without jerking, so that the paint does not lift from under the film. Anyone building several airframes at once will appreciate this too: every cockpit comes out the same and the models then look like a matched row in the display case. Have sharp tweezers and plenty of light ready.
