Landing gear bay covers for the Lavochkin La-5 in 1:72 scale are a resin accessory from the Quickboost brand that replaces the corresponding plastic kit parts with more crisply cast ones.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a kit of the aircraft but an add-on set for modelers who already own a La-5 kit in 1:72 scale. These are parts cast in modeling resin that replace the landing gear bay covers from the base kit. A resin casting allows thinner walls and cleaner outlines than can be done in injection-molded plastic, so the detail improves markedly once painted. The number of parts and the contents of the package are stated on the box.
The Lavochkin La-5 was a Soviet single-seat fighter of the Second World War. It arose from a rebuild of the earlier LaGG-3 type, in which the V12 engine was replaced by an air-cooled Shvetsov M-82 radial. The combination of a largely wooden structure and a powerful radial engine gave the aircraft good climb and speed at low and medium altitudes. The type was developed further in production into the La-5F and La-5FN versions and became one of the most numerous Soviet fighters of its day.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with a little detergent, so that mold release agent residue is removed from the surface; otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a knife, and never snap them. Do the sanding wet and with respiratory protection, because resin dust is irritating. They are glued with cyanoacrylate, that is with super glue, because ordinary cement for plastic does not work on resin. Before spraying we recommend applying a primer, which evens out the different surfaces of resin and plastic.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
