This etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard adds fine metal detail to a plastic kit of the Avro Lancaster B Mk.I/Mk.III bomber in 1:72 scale. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory that replaces and sharpens selected plastic parts of the kit. Sets of this kind usually cover interior as well as exterior elements — the instrument panel, seat belts, levers and small covers — etched in thin metal of a kind that injection-molded plastic cannot capture in a small scale.
The Avro Lancaster was a British four-engine heavy night bomber of the Second World War and one of the mainstays of the raids on Germany. The Mk.I and Mk.III versions differed mainly in the origin of their Merlin engines, British or license-built, and were otherwise practically identical. The Lancaster became famous for its capacious bomb bay and for the attacks on the German dams.
Etched parts are cut from the fret, bent along the pre-scored lines and bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate); on larger surfaces a two-part epoxy helps. Tweezers, a photo-etch bending tool and patience are recommended — the set is meant for more experienced modelers.
This is a detail accessory, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
