About product

Photo-etched set 1:72 Lockheed C-130H Hercules - cockpit detail (Eduard)

A photo-etched metal set from the Czech company Eduard, aimed at the flight deck of the 1:72 C-130H model. By its classification these are etched parts, that is an accessory for a kit. On the Hercules cockpit detail makes sense even in a small scale, because the glazing of the forward fuselage is extensive and you really can see inside.

The real subject

The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop transport aircraft with a high-set wing, a loading ramp in the tail and landing gear retracted into fairings on the sides of the fuselage. The design, with a cargo floor of constant width, allows bulky loads to be carried. The C-130H version is one of the most widespread forms and it was operated by a number of countries. The flight deck is exceptionally well glazed, including windows above the crew's heads, and besides the pilots there is room in it for further crew members.

Usage tips - folds and the instrument panel

Cockpit sets typically contain parts with ninety-degree folds. A photo-etch bending tool handles them best: the part is clamped exactly on the fold line and bent in one smooth movement. Without a bending tool the small parts are folded between two razor blades. Never bend the metal back and forth, because it cracks along the fold. Glue the instrument panel and the side consoles in only after they have been painted, so that the glue does not ruin the finished surface. Given how extensively the Hercules is glazed it pays not to rush: once the cockpit is closed up you cannot correct anything. Before installation, check by dry fitting that the parts do not stop the fuselage from closing.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the C-130H Hercules model in 1:72
  • Modelers who are bothered by an empty cockpit under extensive glazing
  • Anyone interested in transport and cargo aircraft
  • Builders with experience of photo-etched parts and a bending tool

The package contains add-on parts only. The kit itself, glues and paints are not included, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a set of photo-etched metal parts that supplement the 1:72 C-130H kit. The base model has to be bought separately.

It is not a condition, but with cockpit sets that have right-angle folds it helps a great deal. Without one the small parts are folded between two razor blades.

Before the fuselage is closed and the glazing fitted. After that you cannot reach the cockpit.

The specific contents are not stated here. We recommend checking them against the manufacturer's data before buying.
