A resin accessory in 1:72 scale which replaces the plastic exhaust nozzle on a model of the single-engine Lockheed F-104 Starfighter fighter. According to the name it is intended for the F-104S and F-104G versions. The package is a detail accessory; the model of the aircraft itself is not part of it.
The Starfighter is a single-engine aircraft with a very slender fuselage and short straight wings, powered by an afterburning General Electric J79 turbojet. The F-104G version was multirole and spread through the European air forces, while the F-104S was built under license in Italy as an interceptor. On this type the variable nozzle forms a prominent visual part of the tail, because the fuselage is thin and the nozzle is clearly visible on it. That is exactly why a simplified plastic part is easily spotted on a model, and replacing it with a one-piece resin nozzle with a worked-out inside changes the look of the whole tail.
In 1:72 scale this is a small part, so work over a support and with tweezers. Wash the resin in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting block off with a fine saw and level the mating surface on abrasive paper laid on a flat board. Test dry how the part joins the fuselage and fill any gap. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the inside of the nozzle before gluing it in, because afterwards you cannot reach it: a dark metallic shade with a sooty cast suits it, while the outer ring tends to be lighter. Metallic paints need a smooth surface and are applied only at the end of the build.
