Eduard offers a separate set of landing gear wheels for the model of this multirole combat aircraft. Casting allows a sharper tread pattern, a more legible tire sidewall and a more detailed hub, the kind of detail that an injection mold usually simplifies in a small scale. The package contains the wheels only; neither the aircraft nor the landing gear legs are in it.
The F-35B is the variant of the fifth-generation aircraft with short takeoff and vertical landing capability. Its landing gear is sturdier than that of ordinary land-based aircraft, because it has to take a touchdown at a high rate of descent onto a small piece of deck. On aircraft in service the tires scuff and dirty markedly, so it pays to paint the wheels separately and give them some attention.
Wash the wheels once they come out of the mold and cut the casting remnants off with a knife carrying a new blade, so the outline stays circular. Painting goes fastest if you spray the whole hub and then go over the tire with a circular stroke of a soft brush. A gray tint instead of pure black looks more natural in a small scale. Finally, dust the lower part of the wheel lightly so that it ties in visually with the base.
