An injection-molded plastic kit of the American M2A3 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle in the BUSK III fit, in 1:72 scale from Dragon. Dragon has long been established in military vehicles in this scale and its molds tend to be richly broken up, so the model offers plenty of detail even at a small size.
The Bradley is an American infantry fighting vehicle that combines carrying a dismount squad with fire support. The M2A3 version is the digitized standard with an independent thermal sight for the commander and modernized electronics; the main armament consists of a 25 mm automatic cannon supplemented by a launcher for anti-tank guided missiles and a coaxial machine gun. The abbreviation BUSK stands for Bradley Urban Survivability Kit, that is, a set of modifications for use in a built-up area. It answers the experience of fighting in a densely built environment, where the vehicle is at risk of being hit from very close range and from upper floors. The BUSK III version is a later stage of this package. Outwardly the modifications show as additions on the hull and the turret which change the silhouette of the vehicle against the basic fit, so the model is easy to recognize.
It is best to separate the parts from the sprues with nippers and to dress the sprue nubs with a file so that they do not spoil the visible surfaces. Gluing is handled best with a thin cement for plastic, which runs into the joint by capillary action. It is sensible to finish and paint the running gear and the tracks before the hull is closed up, as there is no access to them once it is assembled. The small additions of the BUSK fit are better glued on after the hull has been painted, otherwise it is hard to get under them with either a brush or an airbrush. A primer pays off before painting, and an airbrush on large areas. Gloss varnish under the decals helps to avoid silvered edges, and a final matte varnish unifies the surface. A patina is better built up in stages: a dark wash into the engraved lines, then dust and mud on the running gear and the lower parts.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
