This is an injection-molded plastic kit of the M4 Sherman medium tank in 1:72 scale from Heller. The subject is the basic M4 version with a gasoline radial engine. The box contains plastic sprues with the parts, a decal sheet for several marking options and instructions. The exact contents and markings depend on the particular boxing.
The M4 Sherman was the backbone of American and Allied armor in the Second World War. The basic M4 version was powered by a gasoline radial engine, had a welded hull, a rotating turret with a 75 mm gun and running gear with vertical volute spring suspension. Shermans proved themselves through their reliability, easy production and maintenance, and their service from Normandy through Italy to the Pacific.
Assemble and paint the running gear - road wheels, idler wheels and tracks - before you close the hull, because it is harder to reach later. For convincing weathering apply a darker wash into the recesses and details, bring out the edges with drybrushing and dust the underside and the track runs with pigments for mud and dust effects. Liquid cement for plastic, a primer and a matte varnish at the end are recommended; the paint is best applied with an airbrush.
