An injection-molded plastic model of the American M4A1(76)W Sherman medium tank in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. The M4A1 version is marked by its cast, rounded hull; the (76)W suffix stands for the more powerful 76mm gun in the T23 turret and for so-called wet stowage of the ammunition, which lowered the risk of fire after a hit. The box contains injection-molded plastic parts and a decal sheet.
The Sherman was the most widespread American medium tank of the Second World War. The M4A1 form had a one-piece cast hull, easily recognized by its rounded shapes. Rearming it with the 76mm M1 gun gave the tank markedly better penetration against armor, which was needed against the later German tanks. Upgraded Shermans with the 76mm gun served with the Allied armies from 1944 until the end of the war.
On a tank it pays to assemble and paint the running gear with its wheels and tracks first, and only then close up the hull. Glue the plastic parts with thin modeling cement for plastic. Apply a primer before painting and lay the olive drab base down with an airbrush in thin coats. The cast hull and turret come to life with light drybrushing on the edges, a dark wash into the details and pigments for mud and dust effects on the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
