An engine set for the twin-engine Marcel Bloch MB-200 bomber, or for its Czechoslovak licensed version the Aero MB-200, in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Marcel Bloch MB-200 was a French twin-engine bomber of the first half of the 1930s whose boxy fuselage and fixed landing gear looked dated before the machine had fully entered service. For Czech modelers it is interesting above all because it was also built under license by Aero, so its Czechoslovak examples carried domestic designations and domestic colors.
The powerplant is exceptionally exposed on this type: the nacelles are short, the radial engine is visible from the front and from the side, and the cylinders with the exhaust collector ring make up most of what the viewer takes in of the engine. A casting can capture the finning of the cylinders and the pushrods far more finely than can be drawn out of an ordinary mold.
Closing the unit into the nacelle tends to be the tightest point of the build, so it is worth simply offering the whole block up first and evening out any overhang. Once the gate has been cut off, the surfaces are freed of grease; only then does super glue hold the way it should. Chemical cement for polystyrene will not bond with this material.
A period photograph of this type is not easy to come by, because the machine disappeared from the scene quickly. It helps to compare it with other radial engines of the same generation, where you can see how high the exhaust collector sits and how the pipes run to the individual cylinders.
It is sensible to paint the cylinders before gluing them into the nacelle, because afterward a brush will not reach the lower ones. Do not use aggressive cleaners on a finished casting – they soften the surface and wipe out the fine relief. And do not count on finding a fuselage or a wing in the package; the set refines a model that is already built.
