The F-4 Phantom II ADVANCED mask in 1:72 scale from New Ware

The mask set in the ADVANCED form is intended for models of the Phantom II in 1:72 scale, and for the whole group of versions named in the title at once. It is neither a kit nor decals, but an accessory: a self-adhesive film with precisely cut shapes that are applied to the parts of the model before spraying.

Why one set for several versions

The individual versions of the Phantom II differ from each other above all in equipment, in the forward fuselage or in armament, while the shape of the canopy and of the main glazed areas stays much the same across the versions. Thanks to that, one set of masks will fit several models from the same family. It is always necessary to compare the cutouts with the parts of the particular kit, though, because every manufacturer shapes the frames a little differently.

Masking in a small scale

• In 1:72 scale the frames are genuinely thin, so lay the mask on with tweezers and seat it with a toothpick.
• Do not work over a carpet. A mask a few millimeters across is hard to find.
• Spray the paint in very thin coats, as a heavy coat creates a visible step at a mask this narrow.
• Take the mask off with the tip of a scalpel stuck into its middle rather than by pulling at the edge.
• Any overrun can be put right by scraping with the tip of a scalpel, after which the clear part is polished up with polishing compound.

Who the set is for

For modelers who build Phantoms in a smaller scale and do not want to paint the frames over with a brush. Given its reach across several versions, it also suits anyone who builds more than one Phantom.

The package contains masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the delivery.
