Injection-molded plastic kit from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM. Besides the cargo truck itself, the package also holds figures of German drivers, so one box gives you a finished scene with its crew and there is no need to buy figures separately. The subject is a French cargo truck with a payload of 3.5 tons, which the Wehrmacht used under the German designation Lastkraftwagen 3.5 t AHN. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The AHN type appeared at the turn of the 1930s and 1940s as a cab-over-engine truck for the French army. Series production started in March 1941, already under the German occupation administration, and continued until 1944; roughly four thousand vehicles were built in all. Power came from a six-cylinder engine and only the rear axle was driven, so the truck served mainly as a supply and transport vehicle rather than as an off-road machine. It turned up with the most varied branches of the German army, on the Eastern Front, in Italy and in France, and it is one of those machines that are everywhere in period photographs but were long missing from the modeling market.
It is a good idea to paint the cab and the cargo bed separately and join them only at the end, as otherwise you cannot reach the interior of the cab. Set the frame and the axles up on a flat surface so that the finished model stands on all its wheels. Paint the wheels before fitting them, leave the tires flat and dust them with pigment. Cargo trucks only look convincing with weathering: dusty fenders, worn edges on the cab and traces of mud on the chassis make up most of the result. Shade the cargo bed and the tarpaulin separately so that the fabric does not look like sheet metal. Paint the driver figures separately and seat them in the cab last; try the poses dry before gluing anything.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
