An injection-molded plastic kit of the two-seat F-4D Phantom II fighter in 1:72 scale from the Japanese maker FineMolds, focused on machines of the Iranian Air Force. FineMolds has an extensive family of Phantoms in this scale and the brand is known for fine engraving and accurate shapes. With Phantoms the particular version and user matter, because the individual variants differ in the forward fuselage, in the equipment and in the underwing stores.
The F-4 Phantom II was a twin-engine, two-seat machine of American manufacture that became one of the most widespread combat types of the second half of the twentieth century. It was powered by two turbojets with afterburners, and the crew consisted of a pilot and a weapon systems officer. The F-4D version was a development step derived from the variant for the US Air Force, with modified equipment for guided weapons. The Iranian Air Force introduced the Phantom at the end of the 1960s and operated it for many years in both the fighter and the attack role; the Iranian machines wore an unmistakable camouflage scheme different from the American ones. That is exactly what makes them an interesting subject for modelers who collect Phantoms of different users.
Finish and paint both cockpits before the fuselage is closed up and think about nose weight right away, as Phantoms usually need it. Paint the intakes and their interiors before you close them, because you will not get at them afterwards; the lips of the intakes deserve careful sanding of the seam. Use thin cement on the plastic, chamfer the joints on the fuselage and the wing roots and restore the engraving. Apply a primer before painting and check the seams against the light. Spray the multi-tone desert camouflage starting from the lightest shade and keep the transitions soft. Lay a gloss coat under the decals and flatten it once dry, according to the appearance you want. On machines from a desert environment the weathering rests mainly on a fine lightening of the surfaces and on dust on the lower parts, not on coarse streaks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
