An injection-molded plastic kit of the German single-seat Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the E-1/B version in 1:72 scale. The edition carries the name Hit and Run Raiders and refers to the use of fighters in the role of a fast bomber. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and the contents of the package and the choice of markings are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
The Bf 109E, nicknamed Emil, was the first mass-produced version of the type, with a Daimler-Benz 601 series engine with direct fuel injection. The E-1 version carried machine gun armament, and the conversion marked with the letter B differed from the basic fighter version in the fitting of a rack under the fuselage on which a bomb could be hung. Machines converted this way served with fighter-bomber units whose tactic was a fast run over the target and an immediate departure at high speed. The airframe stayed identical to the fighter version, so once the load was dropped the aircraft returned to its usual performance.
Short-run kits call for more dry-fitting than ordinary mass-produced kits, so expect to clean up the mating surfaces and to test every subassembly. Finish the cockpit before gluing the fuselage together and mask the glazing, so that the framing stays sharp. Fit the ventral rack and the load only after the lower surfaces have been painted. For Emil schemes an airbrush with a smaller nozzle suits the soft transitions on the fuselage sides, and the decals are then applied onto a gloss coat and settled with a softener.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
