An unassembled and unpainted plastic kit of the German Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 single-engine fighter in 1:72 scale from the Japanese maker Tamiya. The injection-molded parts have engraved panel lines, and the build is laid out so that the model can be finished straight out of the box, with no need to buy accessories.
The Bf 109 G-6 was the most numerously produced version of this fighter. It was powered by the inverted V12 Daimler-Benz DB 605 with direct fuel injection. Compared with the earlier versions the machine was given heavier synchronized 13 mm armament in the nose, whose bulky breeches called for the prominent fairings on the sides of the engine cowling; those are what identify the version at a glance. It was built in many production and equipment standards that differed in the shape of the canopy, the size of the rudder, the equipment and the pylons for additional armament.
Join the plastic parts with thin cement for polystyrene, which is drawn into the seam by capillary action and does not run onto the surface. Finish the cockpit, the instrument panel and the seat and close them up before you join the fuselage halves. Spray the model with a primer before painting; it reveals any remaining seams and evens out the surface. The mottled camouflage on the sides of the fuselage, typical of this version, is sprayed with an airbrush at low pressure and heavily thinned paint from the shortest possible distance; it is worth practicing on scrap plastic. A gloss coat belongs under the decals, and a final fine wash in the engraved lines and a matte coat give the model a scale look.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
