A pre-printed colored cockpit for the 1:72 kit of the late MiG-21 in its early version, complemented by small three-dimensional printed parts. Target kit: Eduard.
Responsibility details are not available.
The bis version closed the long development line of the Soviet supersonic fighter. It received a more powerful engine, more fuel in the fuselage spine and more modern equipment, so what began as a day interceptor became a type usable for attacks on ground targets as well. The early production batches differed from the later ones in their internal equipment and in the placement of the antennas, differences that only an expert notices from outside but which are visible at first glance in the cockpit.
In 1:72 scale the cockpit is exactly where the patience of even the best brush runs out: the instrument panel is only a few millimeters wide and the individual instruments tend to be suggested as barely perceptible dimples. A pre-printed set gets around that problem, as the colors, the dials and the lettering arrive finished and the modeler only seats them on cleaned surfaces. The artwork has a relief of its own, so once dry it does not look like a sticker.
Recommended procedure: first spray the cockpit tub with the base color and polish it to a gloss, then let it cure thoroughly. The set is seated piece by piece rather than all at once, and as each one settles it is pressed down with a cotton swab. Right at the end comes a matte coat, which erases the difference between the print and the plastic completely.
