The real subject

The MiG-21R is the tactical reconnaissance variant of the popular supersonic MiG-21 fighter. Under the fuselage it carried interchangeable reconnaissance pods with cameras or electronic equipment, which made it an important means of tactical reconnaissance. It kept the delta wing and the performance basis of the MiG-21 family, but its purpose and equipment set it apart from a pure fighter. It served with a number of air forces in the Eastern Bloc and beyond.

Building and painting tips

Cut the parts from the sprues and glue them with thin modeling cement for plastic. Paint the cockpit before closing up the fuselage and mask the clear canopy. Assemble the reconnaissance pod under the fuselage carefully, as it is characteristic of this version. Apply a primer, then the paints with an airbrush, apply the decals for European operators over a gloss clear coat and bring out the panel lines with a wash.
