The accessory set Eduard 1:72 Mikoyan MiG-21bis upgrade set improves a model of the Soviet fighter with photo-etched metal parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
The word upgrade suggests that the set aims at the places where a plastic mold runs up against its limits: fine panels, grilles, stiffeners and small elements that cannot be molded in a small scale. The thickness of metal is doubly an advantage here, because in 1:72 scale every tenth of a millimeter shows. The package consists of a photo-etched sheet; the fighter itself is bought separately.
The bis version closed the development line of the MiG-21 and from 1972 became the most widespread variant of late production. It received a more powerful power unit, an increased fuel capacity in the spine of the fuselage and upgraded avionics. Machines of this version served in the Czechoslovak Air Force as well, and in the armed forces of a number of other countries they stayed in active service into the new millennium.
Fine parts in a small scale will not tolerate an excess of glue. Put a drop on a piece of aluminum foil and pick it up with the point of a pin. Wipe the metal with alcohol before painting so that fingerprints disappear, and spray it with a thin layer of primer. Bends in this scale run along very fine grooves, so it pays to work under a magnifier and to have sharp tweezers at hand that will grip a part even by its narrowest edge.
