A 1:72 photo-etched set for a model of the Soviet Mikoyan MiG-25PD interceptor. Metal parts for the fine detail that plastic cannot manage.
Responsibility details are not available.
The MiG-25 is a Soviet twin-engine interceptor built for flight at great altitude and very high speed. So that the airframe could take the heating such flight brings, it is welded for the most part from steel rather than from the light alloys usual for aircraft of the period. The machine has angular side air intakes, a high-set wing and a pair of vertical tails. The PD designation belongs to a modernized interceptor version with a new radar, which came about both as new-build aircraft and as conversions of older ones.
The metal fret carries parts etched down to a few tenths of a millimeter. That is the heart of the matter: grilles, covers, placards and loops are meant to look like sheet metal on the model, and injection-molded plastic cannot be made that thin. On a large aircraft in a small scale the difference shows above all on surfaces where a thin edge should be apparent. Which parts the fret holds and where they belong is described in the instructions supplied with the set.
Release the parts by cutting with a sharp blade on a hard surface; never break them out. Use a bending tool or a straight edge for the folds, so that the fold comes out sharp and even along its whole length. They are glued with a minimal amount of cyanoacrylate. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with primer, otherwise the paint rubs off during further handling.
What is supplied is an etched fret. The aircraft kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
