P-51C má rámovaný stupňovitý překryt kabiny a jiný tvar zádi trupu, zatímco P-51D dostal kapkovitý překryt se sníženým hřbetem. Jde o odlišné modely, díly nejsou zaměnitelné.

Je to britské označení pro P-51B a P-51C v britské službě. Stroj je technicky týž, liší se označení a obvyklá schémata.
